New Years Day Freedride

New Years Day with a hangover? Not my slogan in 2015!

The forecast was just too good to waste the day without going skiing. I set the alarm at 5.15am and at exactly 6am my friend and I started our journey to the Stubai Glacier. While some drunk people were walking home, the empty road was ours.

2 hours later we arrived  at the "Mutterberg" cable car, looking forward to a promising day. It was the first good day after a period of bad weather and heavy snowfall, so the we expected plenty of deep untouched powder. Only the avalanche risk was not the best, so we tried to avoid risky steep slopes.
After 1 cable car, 2 chairlifts and a short walk uphill we finally found this:

Everyone who is doing backcountry skiing or freeriding knows what that means. It's one of the rare situations when you are the first on the summit, and in front of you is an untouched powder slope. I can not put into words, it's a wet dream for mountaineers, like a win in the lottery, it's just AWESOME!!!!

Following some impressions of our freeriding day! Enjoy!
